Naomi is now less than 1 month from her first birthday. She surprises me around every turn. She is utterly gross (lately enjoying chewing on a booger sucker for hours and playing in every toilet and diaper pail she can find). She is intense and ravenous about life - grabbing each moment with curiosity and sheer undivided attention. She crawled around in the midst of an early Christmas gift giving frenzy the other night sampling life as it came. She is both incredibly laid back and supremely clear about what she wants, needs and downright desires. What a joy.

Not only that, but she tried her first cheesey poof the other day and was hooked within 60 seconds. I'm so proud of you boogs!
I heard once that it is the first three years of our lives that we are closest to Christ, because we have not yet learned to be utterly divorced from the reality of the moment by our thoughts. in that time, it is through our connection with the Divine Wow that we learn to stand, walk, talk, and think -- we learn these things by watching other people, too, but there is something more at work in these supremely human acts.
anyway, the point of all that is to say that I have found in little kids great teachers of surrender, hope, love, and devotion to god's mysterious work RIGHT NOW. naomi is extraordinary at that kind of teaching.
